LaVon Ilene Sheldon, 96 of Westby and formerly of Ontario died Thursday, May 14, 2015, at Norseland Nursing Home in Westby.
She was born Oct. 15, 1918, to Warnie and Hazel (Parr) Calhoon in Vernon County, Wis. She was united in marriage to Delbert Sheldon on March 16, 1937, at United Brethren Church in Ontario. He preceded her in death March 5, 1988.
LaVon had been an active member of Grace Community Church until she entered Norseland Nursing Home. She has been very active in the Community Action Club, Senior Citizens and Royal Neighbors. LaVon had a servant’s heart and would lend a hand to anyone who needed help if she possibly could. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain family and friends. She always made plenty of food, hoping someone extra would stop in. The coffee pot was always on at LaVon and Delbert’s home.
In her younger years, she and Delbert managed the former White Hotel in Ontario and worked in various restaurants until moving to the Sheldon farm in Brush Creek, where they farmed until Delbert’s stroke. Then she moved back to Ontario. LaVon did many odd jobs, such as delivering the Grit paper, mowing lawns, serving as a substitute cook for the school and cleaning the Ontario Bank for extra money, but mainly so she could visit with people. She always seemed to have time for others.
She is survived by two daughters, Sheila (Larry) Myers of Hillsboro and Vickie (Lynn) Hulburt of Holmen; two sons, Stephen (Clara) of Wonewoc and Jeffery (Debbie) Of Salt Lake City, Utah; 10 grandchildren, Bryan (Diane) Myers of Tomah, Kristine (Ted) Raspiller of Hillsboro, Rebecca (Joe) Mayer of Winona, Minn., Shane (Tanya) Hulburt of Holmen, Matthew (Tiffany) Hulburt of West Salem, Richard Hulburt of Sparta, Chelsea Hulburt of Holmen, Lisa (Josh) Roehling of Wonewoc, Tim Garfoot of Wonewoc and Elizabeth (Mike) Waser of Wonewoc; 16 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Zachariah Myers, Jessica and Dalton Raspiller, Jacob, Hannah, David and Memphis Hulburt, Joey, Ana, Danny and Tommy Roehling, Logan and Lexie Mortimer, and Gabe and Lucas Waser; a brother, Jack (Marilyn) Calhoon; four sisters, Bernice Osgood, Leona Paulsen, Rose Marie (Lester) Phelps and Bessie (Leon) McElhose; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Blackburn.
She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, who were all so special to her. She will be said missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delbert; two sons, Donald and David; a great-granddaughter, Justice Marie Hulburt; and two infant siblings, three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, at Grace Community Church, 100 Monroe St., Ontario. Pastor Bruce A. Milleman will officiate. Burial will be in Hilltop Rest Cemetery in Ontario.
