Bruce R. Harrison, 80, of Bloomington, Ill., and formerly of Wilton and Elk Grove, Ill., died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bloomington, Ill.
Bruce was born Nov. 30, 1933, near New Lisbon, Wis., a son of Max and Ruth (Dalton) Harrison. He married Joyce E. Fick on Aug. 23, 1958, in Wilton. She preceded him in death June 29, 2000. Bruce was a U.S. Army veteran. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He was a faithful and active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Ill. He worked for the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed the outdoors and working in his garden and yard. He was a devoted husband and a proud father and grandfather, and he was most happy when he was with family and friends.
He is survived by a daughter, Marcia (Scott) Eckdahl of Normal, Ill.; two grandsons, Craig and Brett Eckdahl; his brother, Richard Harrison; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; and his sister, Dolores Schaal.
A graveside funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Wilton. Pastor Cindy Arndt will officiate. Military honors will be by Hanson-Stark-Leith-Paeth American Legion Post 201.
